Getting married abroad, also known as a "destination wedding," is becoming increasingly popular. And a bespoke wedding ceremony can of course be celebrated abroad just as easily. Unlike a civil ceremony, there's no paperwork to sort out, and you don't need to worry about the marriage being recognised back in your home country. All you need is yourselves, a location and a wedding officiant. 😊
I've attended weddings abroad myself, and I think there's definitely something special about it. Pretty much everyone is more relaxed and happier while on holiday, simply because you can leave everyday life and its worries behind. And when there's a wedding as the highlight on top of that, it's simply unbeatable! A truly special atmosphere emerges. Imagine travelling with your guests a few days before the wedding and starting things off with a lovely get-together. The next day, the women might have a beauty day and the men a boys' outing, or you all head out on a great excursion together to get into the mood for the wedding. On the big day itself, nobody has to stress about travel logistics. Everyone is already there, full of anticipation. The bride and her friends get styled, the men slip into their finest suits. You can really immerse yourselves in each other, your wedding, and of course your bespoke wedding ceremony as the emotional highlight. And after you've danced the night away and celebrated, the next morning might bring a lovely brunch with your loved ones, where you get to relive the most beautiful moments all over again. It can become a truly special experience for you, your friends and your family.
On the other hand, getting married abroad naturally involves a bit more planning, especially if there's a language barrier to navigate. Cost is also a factor. Although there are certainly countries where travel and accommodation add to the cost, while the wedding itself — the venue, food, drinks and so on — actually ends up cheaper than in Germany. It's worth thinking carefully about what matters most to you. As is so often the case, there's no right or wrong here. Do whatever feels right to you, and whatever YOU feel comfortable with. You don't have to follow a trend that doesn't suit you. But if you've always dreamed of a wedding abroad — then go for it!
